![]() I found that once I got closer to 2x speed it was much harder to follow, but it's a cool feature to have. A speed slider lets you speed up the podcast to more than twice the original speed while preserving the sound quality of the voices. There's also a Voice Boost toggle that punches up the voices so you can hear them over background music or other ambient noise. Here you can toggle a button for Smart Speed that automatically shortens pauses in the audio to make the podcast finish faster. In the lower right corner, you can touch Effects for a few more useful features. There's also a sleep timer in the playback controls so you can listen to a podcast as you doze off. One-by-one mode is great for timing a workout so you know that at the end of the podcast it's time to stop. This is useful for long trips where you might want to just move on to the next podcast. In the lower left, you can touch "Playback" to switch between continuous and one-by-one play mode. While you're listening to an individual podcast, there are a few more controls onscreen. 10 bucks a year to remove ads is a little eh, but then again, I bought it when it was a paid app so I'm grandfathered in.Once you pay for the app, you'll be able to use effects, adjust the speed of playback, and more. If you don't do premium, you get ads while looking at your podcast episodes. Support is slow, but generally major issues are worked on ASAP if there is one. I don't have a Watch so I can't confirm that. On the Watch front, I'm not 100% sure but I think it's just a frontend and I don't believe it actually stores any podcasts on it. Castro I believe doesn't have any of them if I recall correctly. The features you're looking for are definitely things Overcast provides. I can search and download an episode without having to outright subscribe to it. But Overcast seems to have solved the problem. Every other podcast app seems to get it when you're on 1.1-2x. I sometimes bump it up to 1.5x (even with Smart Speed on) and people still don't sound like robots. One of the understated features for Overcast is the speed playback tech that's used. I've tried it, PocketCasts (used it exclusively when I was on Android before I switched to iOS years ago), Downcast and Castro. To be clear: I want an apple watch app that allows me to transfer podcasts to the watch so I can play them without needing my phone. The apple watch app is low priority right now since I don't have one yet, but based on how much of a pain it was to get podcasts onto my Android Wear watch having an app that supports that would be sublime. I am looking for a couple things out of a podcast app and not sure if Castro has these, Overcast certainly does: Syncing between devices, a web player, and an apple watch app. The way it organizes apps is intriguing to me though. Have Overcast downloaded and it seems pretty good so far, but I have heard good things about Castro as well. It's obvious the dev prioritizes the Android version. I was using Pocketcasts on Android and I have the iOS version as well, but it's just ok. Hello all!
